I think it should be a 25th Anniversary Elite, 1537 style.

Let's see if they can make it a little lighter this time though.

. . . with a shallow bowl, just like one of the original prototypes.

Maybe each, but it should focus on deep.

Something needs to be added to make it really special and I haven't got that answer just yet. I agree with the lighter bowl. So we're not talking a true reissue here but an updated limited done it the tradition of the original.

A 1537 with the lighter bowl, ANS neck, thinner top finish, updated electronics............ that would be one helluva guitar. Light weight and would sound even better than the original. Interesting thought....

I don't disagree. I just love skinny bowls.

Sign me up for one. It ought to be about the same weight at my JL3. But I wouldn't expect it to sound like a classic 1537 - you'll need that heavy bowl and neck and the little extra mojo they put in to capture the magic in the 1537.

how about one using really exotic woods, with part of proceeds going to help save endangered rainforest woods. By exotic, I mean non-endangered woods that have been used rarely if ever in guitars — Ovations or otherwise. Yeah, it would have to be a laminate top, but we're going for style over substance on some of these fancy-schmancy anniversary/tops anyway (aren't we)? Some ideas: Brazilian Cherry, Purple Heart, perhaps a Teak neck with a contrasting fretboard of bamboo (wouln't that look trick?). I'm pretty sure Ovation made a Celeb with a laminated Eucalyptus top some years ago and it was stunning. Anyway, just an idea.

Another one: build them out of wood 'recycled' from old buildings and even old ships. Some of the latter might even sport a bit of worm or barnacle damage. Some of the big beams in old buildings and old fishing boats or schooners are spectacular old-growth heartwoods that are still straight as a laser beam after 80 or 100 years. Do a little provenance with each guitar and again, some proceeds go to preserving old historic buildings or something.
