Location: Boise, Idaho | When I got my 1624, I was disappointed. It just didn't have the deep tone of my 1713. I assumed it was the Artist depth bowl, but it could have been the bracing. I even put high tension strings on it, but that didn't really change much. I finally decided that it was just going to sound like that and I should just be thankful it doesn't sound just like my 1713. Now I play it more than I play any of the other 11. It's all relative. If you like variety, you can justify having lots of different guitars. Ovation makes so many different flavors, there may not be a need to go anywhere else. |

Location: SoCal | Ok, honest opinion here. I had a 1674 which was a Country Artist cutaway. Acoustically, it was mediocre at best. Plugged in, it sounded great. But was was so good about it was that it was 14 frets to the body and the nut was (I'm trying to remember here) either 1 3/4" or 1 7/8", so it was real easy to play. It's a good guitar, but since I played it about 90% of the time unplugged, it was lacking in sound.
I've got a 1773LX now. 12 frets to the body, X braced, LX neck system and modern electronics. Sounds great plugged in or unplugged. Same width neck. Fewer frets, but honestly, I'm not up above the 12th fret all that often, and the cutaway allows me to do what I need up there. |

BTW Moody's right the 1624 does not have that deep of a sound unplugged. But they do have a sound all their own. :cool: :cool: |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | The 1976 1624CA I have has the most wonderful FET preamp. I don't know if it's the age of it, or if it was always that way, but plugged in it is the warmest, most liquid sounding nylon string I have ever played. It's so easy playing, and even unplugged, it's more than adequate. And this easy playing makes up for its unplugged sound. You want pick this baby up and play it. |
