Does anybody have any knowledge as to whether this might actually be a prototype Viper? The controls on it look different than what's on a current Viper. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=884005208

I have verified ownership of mine through the two people it passed when it left the factory... so this is VERY interesting to me. And indeed.. there supposedly was only one made, so I don't know what the one on eBay is. ![]() [ June 12, 2002: Message edited by: Mr. Ovation ] [ June 12, 2002: Message edited by: Mr. Ovation ]

If you look real closely at the peghead shape you can tell this. Also the preamp is different from the production guitars. As I recall the type looked a little prototypish. I suppose you all will want to know the USA factory it was made at? Or can you guess? as far as to the one on ebay being the first one, I can't tell, I'd have to hold it to tell. It was allegedly the "hey, sure... we can do this" model... then they didn't make any in that top. The reason I wanted it, was it matches my natural 6 and 12 string models and really rounds out (excuse the pun) the options for sounds in the studio.

What many people don't realize is that that body of the viper is wood. You also once mentioned that Jol had some input into the preamp so I put it all together. Personally I like the looks of the viper over the 3 hole duotone and the current productio F hole duotone. The mutant I put together has the best of both worlds for me. BTW I had the Phi Zappa Crappa poster on the back of my bedroom wall and I bet if I go over to my mom's basement It is still there unless she threw it out.

The thing that will tell if this is the Hamer proto is a sharper peghead angle, 12 or 14 degrees whereas the Ovation is the std 7 degrees. I remember your mentioning the posted frrom the PF-22 post.
