Joined: December 2002 Posts: 68 Location: Texas | Okay there are two questions here. First, my father-in-law who plays pretty good has decided that he wants an ovation A/E. He has pretty deep pockets and wants a new guitar. Which model is considered the guitar to get in a natural or close finish? He's asking me and I'm just a recent owner of an old '75 balladeer...not an expert. Second question is that we are in Texas. Houston to be exact. All of the guitar shops that I have been to in the Houston area that claim to be Ovation dealers have mostly very very low end Ovations to look at. Which shops in the Texas area would be the best place to see and play higher end Ovations? We are willing to travel to Austin or Dallas or wherever. Most of his playing will be strictly acoustic but he does want the option to plug in. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Shaft

There's a nice Adamas II on eBay right now that will probably fetch about $1200. Just because he has deep pockets doesn't mean he needs to spend it un-necessarily. Dave

Less deep pockets again, buy a mid bowl Elite or Legend in the natural finish. Again, beautiful guitars. All sound wonderful. If you can talk him into buying used, a lot of doors open up.

Joined: December 2002 Posts: 68 Location: Texas | Thanks for the input on guitar choices...Any advice on Ovation dealers in Texas? we would like to look at higher end models but what I'm seeing in Houston is overseas models that we are not interested in. It pisses me off that so many of the guitar shops in my area are only offering low end stuff. i understand their rational...move product move product. But someone between San Antone .. Dallas .. and Houston has to have some quality stuff to look at and play. Any help on dealers? Thanks, Shaft

I finally found an elite I liked at H&H on Katy Freeway. Don't know what the selection is like at their other locations, but it was OK at this one. No Adamasesesii. You may want to call Fuller Vintage. Let me know how it goes.
