Joined: December 2005 Posts: 11 Location: Island Lake, IL | I have been researching about the 1778T and notice one on eBay had a OP PRO, but all the others i find have OP-30 in them...was the 1778T w/OP-PRO an LX? or a custom? i thought all 1778T were LX models...can someone help clear this up? Is the one with flames the same model? thnx...

I played one with "flames" today..can i expect the same performance from a 1778T?

They have one that's a "blem" for $934: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=clearance/search/detail/base_... If you're comfortable with Ebay, I think I've seen them for less. Let's see... Oklahomea Vintage Guitar has a great feedback record, and has one for $899 and another for $999: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Ovations-USA-Elite-1778LX-BCB-Guitar-Ovatio... http://cgi.ebay.com/Ovations-Beautiful-New-Ovation-1778LX-HoneyBurs...

The mothership makes them in Pewter, Black and Lusty Red (I HATE that name, but I love the color ...). They also come with the LX style neck but with a different contour (more of a soft v), but not the GS bowl or LX top bracing. Some of the flame top models (custom paint job, 1778T-PTF and 1778T-RF, and now the orange and blue and even purple flame versions that the web site doesn't even mention) come with the OP-Pro and OPP. Ovation's web site is inconsistent with their descriptions and pictures of these. For instance, their description of the 1778T-RF says OP30 preamp and thinline pickup, but the picture shows an OP-Pro and OPP pickup. Both of the flame top descriptions say LX bracing for the tops, but doesn't mention the bowl composition at all. I bought a new 1778T in lusty red 6 months ago and sent it to the mothership and had the OP30 preamp swapped out for an OP-Pro and had the thinline pickup upgraded to the OPP pickup that the LX series comes with (very reasonably priced). OH MY GOSH, what a SWEET axe that is!

Yea, the Ovation site is inconsistent on the specs. It's an American made Ovation so you can't go wrong.

It is a fantastic sounding guitar. Major boomming bottom end. The flame jobs are twice the price of the non-flamed paint jobs but "bling" factor is large!
