Location: Montana | Hello again, well I found an O to my liking. It has some cosmetic issues (wicked finish cracks around bridge, chippped ear on head) but has a nice action and sounds good acoustically, and I like it, except I can get no sound when plugged in.
At first I could not get the battery light to come on even with a fresh battery. So I opened the rear hatch because I could hear something rattling around inside and found that the cable from the battery to the pre-amp was unplugged, easy fix there and now the battery light comes on. I also noticed that a "cable clamp"? that was originally glued to the underside of the top had come unglued and was flopping around. Then I checked the jack for continuity with a multimeter and there appear to be no problems there. And that's as about as far as I felt comfortable going.
So any advice? Should I pull the cover off the pre-amp and look for loose wires there too? Or, is it time to visit the local Ovation dealer for a repair estimate? Is it possible to buy new replacement electronics? I've not been able to find Ovation parts on the web.

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | You shouldn't need to send it to the mothership to get the electrics sorted out. Find yourself a reputable electronics guru in your own area. You don't even need a luthier for stuff like that, unless, of course, the electrics are 'toast'.
As the guitar doesn't sound very "new" from your description, it won't be covered by warranty anyway. |

Location: Montana | Thanks for the responses, the problem is solved. It turns out that there should have been 3 wires connected to the output jack, whereas mine only had 2. The third wire was broken off/cut so short that I could not tell that it was missing. The local O shop diagnosed and promptly fixed. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Good thing you had a local O shop that knew what to do. I had a wire broken at the output jack on a used Applause I bought. Got it cheap because the electronics didn't work, fixed it and then never plugged it in again. |

A few of my local shops sell them, I wouldn't trust them to fix them!
And I'm sure they snicker when they sell one.
One day they will see the Light!
(Probably as soon as they are branded "Ovation by Fender" :eek:
