I am looking to buy/build a box that will switch between multiple instruments and a single amp. Passive would be great unless that presents a noise problem. Any ideas??

Great, solid little unit. Only 2 channels, tho.
Battery-powered(2AAA's), but batteries have lasted me an exceeding amount of time gigging.
Y'just gotta unplug from it to shut off the battery when yer done. |

Location: Fayetteville, NC | The Boss A/B Box is a very good pedal. A driend of mine uses one faithfully and swears by it.
I have seen others but it is the Boss is the one I've seen up close. If it's not what your thinking of shop around, and maybe ask some questions at at your local Guitar store.

Location: Round Rock, TX | The Boss A/B is good. Real quiet. Batteries last a good while, but you have to unscrew the bottom plate to replace them - mucho inconvenient when you're in the middle of a gig. More expensive, but very nice is the Whirlwind A/B (also available, for even more money, in an A/B/C/D format). They, too, are very quiet - undetectable, even in church (every other A/B box I've tried is LOUD when you switch channels). Plus the Whirlwinds have an A/C adaptor available which means that you don't have to worry about the batteries dying on you. Another advantage of the Whirlwind is that you can have both channels active simultaneously. You can't do that with the Boss.
If you're going to use one on a pedal board, and don't want to have to remove it to change batteries, then go for the Whirlwind. If you need one in your case/gigbag, then the Boss is fine. I own and use them both, but the Whirlwinds (I use two of 'em) are what I use in my he-man rig. I only use the Boss if I need a quick extra, or if I'm doing anything that doesn't require the he-man rig.
They are generally available on eBay (where I got both of mine). The A/B/C/D is rarer on eBay, but Google for it and you can find it discounted on-line.

I'm not familiar with the brand but looks rugged and sounds like it has some plus features.
