To all the The Hunter S Thompson fans out there...
I think a self inlflicted gun shot was the only way the good doctor really could have left us.

Things will be slightly less colorful without him.

I just read he was on the phone with his wife when he did the deed.
not only that his kids were in the house along with his 6 year old grandson.
now that's sad!

He's also having his ashes scattered over his property by having 'em shot up 600 feet in the air by a fireworks contractor.

Now THAT'S "original" . .

The article I read said it's quite common to have your ashes shot out of a cannon. The article didn't say where this place was, but it must be one hell of wild place ... Kah-BOOM! I guess that's why there some many fireworks displays. I just didn't know.

It's a good thing for him that we're nothing but evolved monkeys with no purpose or afterlife. I'd hate leaving here with my last act on earth being murder and then have to face God.

I guess you'd need some space to blast your ashes around. I can just picture setting up the rocket in the middle of the street here in Brooklyn, "hey mista, watch ya' doin'" says the neighborkid. "Oh just blasting granpa's mortal remains into the atmosphere so they rain down on us" "Mista you' crazy." I actually followed some directions to spread ashes in the winds, a buddist ceremony that did not involve a person, but rather prayer board, and when you spread the ashes you have to make sure you are NOT facing the wind. I think the Big Lebowski had a scene like this. It really takes the wind out of you sails, when you try to have a dignified ceremony and you get a face full of ashes. A rocket is the way to go.

I thought the best line came from his neighbour who had been around his house drinking and watching a game the Saturday before. He said he was shocked that HST would shoot himself:-

"I would have been less surprised if he'd shot me."
