Location: Fort Worth, TX | I already own an Ovation, so I feel safe asking this question. As my next guitar (since pinstriping business is taking off and daughter's wedding is paid for), I was considering a Recording King. I looked at several in a new music store I discovered and was impressed - particularly with an Adirondack top solid HOG sides dread. Any opinions on these guitars? |

Location: Tennessee | I've been playing with some people who own them. Very nice guitar for the money. They have the OM sized ones ... the first was mahogany and the new one is rosewood. I've played them several times, most recently two weeks ago when I broke a string mid performance and swapped out with one. I think they seem to be really nice quality guitars when new. But I will say that they seemed to get old fast and haven't up so well under the rigors of playing out a lot. The hog needed a neck reset about three years in. and the sound has gotten ... I don't know how to say this ... I guess "dull" over time, even with fresh strings. That said, they're getting compared to some pretty good guitars. So in the end, I'd say that they're the best cheap guitars I've played, except for those all-solid Epiphones they brought out about four or five years ago (I think those were better).

YES, the Masterbuilt Epi's ... THOSE were really amazing guitars for the money.
I never actually played a RK, so I can't compare. It does seem that lately there are some really nice guitars in the low end market. |

That's all I needed to hear... won't be buying one - thanks. This reminds me of an old Ford commercial for the LTD sitting side by side with a Mercedes. The announcer says the LTD is quieter than the Mercedes. I remember thinking bring both of those cars back together in a few years and try it again and see who wins. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | As years go by, the continuing improvement in quality (tone, playability, workmanship, materials, consistency, etc.) of lower priced guitars will further diminish their differences between high end models. Personally, I think this will be great as it will introduce new players to better sounding and playing gear which will increase their satisfaction and perhaps keep them in the game longer. |

If they would take the time to give them a proper setup and match them with the proper strings they would probably get close to 95%.....but probably not sell any more. |
