Al, I got the same feeling at first, but if you scroll to around 2:18 in the video above, you'll discover that he does a second song which is quite different from the first one; it's a vocal with nice accompaniment and no "bongo." I love the tone he's getting out of that guitar!

Given his speeD and minimal position changes I hope he's playing on an open tuning! If not, that's kinda sick. And standing nonetheless! I think my playing gets exponentially worse once I stand!

I'm not sure what tuning he's using, but he mixes in a a lot of harmonics, and he does it very well.

Thanks for posting the link!

It's definitely an open tuning. I'm not a big fan of "bongo" guitar either, but this dude wasn't really doing that, he's thumping the bass strings like a bass and finger picking. The lead singer for our band Chasen Chantz uses that very same style on a few of the songs we have. He's usually in drop d when he's thumping like that.

This guy's a bit over the top though in the first song. I wasn't expecting that voice outta him though. It was very good, just odd to me for some reason

When u guys say bongo guitar is that the same as slap guitar, like Eric mongrain? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8645NXG-iII&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Seems pretty similar juts not as powerful slaps.

Thanks for pointing out the second song Standing. I'd moved on by that stage.
Like some others said, talented, but not my cup'o tea. The second bit was much more listenable.
