Hey everyone,
I have searched this forum on "strings" but haven't found anything on this. Has anyone tried D'addario bluegrass strings on a mid-bowl LX (I think they are EJ19)? These strings have thicker bass. Any thoughts or results? The guitars are 1778 LX and GC778LX. Thanks.

Why don't you try them and let everybody know what you think?

I will if I can find them locally. Seems they are not stock in the chain stores (or a lot of the independents) here. Go figure.

The EJ19 is just a heavy set of strings, 14-59 I think. I use them on my long neck tunes to C or D

EJ19's are 12 16 25 35 45 56. They'll work fine on your guitar. The truss rod might need a minor tweak.

Elderly says this for the ej19: bluegrass gauge, 012 016 025W 035W 045W 056W. The ej16 is: 012 016 024w 032w 042w 053w. They say the 19 is light/medium.

Right, my bad, I'm thinking of the EJ18 set.

I've recently been using the True Mediums by GHS on the Collings, 13-56 but the D and A are a little lighter than the regular medium set. I like them pretty good.
A certain banjo player told me about them.

I put the Bluegrass strings on my 1651 JL3 and liked them a lot. But they're perfect for my Tak340BG and my Martin dread.

Mr. Moody's memory must be going. I sent him a set of Martin Bluegrass strings for free some time back to try. I guess they didn't make much of an impression.

Personally, I don't like them. If your fingers can handle mediums, use mediums. I found the bluegrass strings just as heavy as mediums to play but without an appreciably better tone than lights.

Mitch, I think Moody was responding to my query about D'addario bluegrass. I have found Martin SP lights to be really stiff compared to EJ16s so I'm not sure that would translate to the bluegrass strings. Everybody's input so far has been great. Thanks.
