The restaurant gig I have plugs you into their overhead PA. Owner says that's all you need. Wrong. Plus they will sometimes cut in when someone doesn't respond to the little beepers they give the customers (Smith, party of six)
I had been using a couple of wedges but I bought a pair of the Carvin PM5 reference monitors and mounted them on mic stands. I added a small SWR full range bass speaker on the floor for the lows. At the volume we use, it's turned out to be a perfect solution. Less weight to lug.
Just a heads-up if someone is interested in this sort of thing. |

Location: Delaware | I'm sure what you have is really nice sounding and portable, but if ones budget can swing it, for a soloist guitar/singer you should try a Bose PAS L1 B1. I love mine. |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | I have lots of Carvin stuff and love the PM5's. I am thinking of replacing my 70's vintage AR12's with them for my home stereo (adding a powered sub to the mix). I have used them as monitors, and in small venues mains for guitar and vocal. They are a tough little unit. |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | I don't know about the C980, but I have had 3 Cobalts now. Usually, I snag them on ebay for about $400 or thereabouts, then find folks who want are newer players that want a really decent a/e guitar for not much money.
Bottom line.....I have owned many Carvins and generally find all to be pretty high quality in features, fit and finish. The Cobalts are no exception and the three I have owned easily compete with 400 series Taylors in the looks and playability department. They have Fishman electronics packages and are set up with a pretty decent action. The only downside is the sound is a bit on the "flat side" compared to my 1537 and my Adamas 2080, so my preference is for the plastic guitars with the clear highs and mids.
However, I don't find the sound offensive at all, just different. Tuners are decent quality, woods look nice and hardware is well appointed and located.
Not a bad guitar for the price and don't forget that Korea (last I checked this is where the guitar was built) has some first rate guitar factories for mass produced, middle grade instruments. |
