Location: Waterloo, IL | Now that I have been back in the states for almost a week, I paid a visit to the local GC, just to see what they had. At first I was just looking for a used electric guitar to take to see next time, but made the mistake of picking up a 12 string acoustic, just to see what it sounded like. That was a very bad idea. Now I have a bad case of GAS for a 12 string. :( Although the two 12 strings I picked up were not Ovations, they did have a very good sound for the $300 new. Afraid that I would buy one, I do not remember just what brand they were, but it seems that they were Yamaha and maybe an Epi. However, I would really prefer an Ovation. After taking a look on Ebay, I found this one.

Trusting those here, I am asking if this is a fair price, or should I keep on looking? How hard are these to replace the strings?

Whatever you do, make sure you ask lots of questions... this is the same guitar (not the celebrity) mentioned in a thread labelled "does this bug you?" So check under general postings for this topic.
Among the things listed that are different:
-model name (Glenn Campbell vs Pacemaker)
-initially didn't come with a case, now it does??
-original ad listed as made in Korea (was changed to USA but correction didn't make it to the new listing???)
Serial number puts year of manufacture in 1978, while the current ad says "1990's" I believe the first ad said 1990's also- another correction that didn't make to the re-listing???
According to that previous thread, a couple of OFC members even addressed the incorrectness of the ad with the seller...All I can say is, if the seller doesn't care, why should you? Shop around! Good Luck and welcome home :)

Location: Dallas, GA, USA | I can relate. I recently had a 12-string GAS attack, and found releif in a Std Balladeer. There were two going on at the same time (eBay auctions, that is), and I almost bid on that Pacemaker. Frankly, after reading what I read, I'm glad I didn't. Be patient and wait for the right deal on the right guitar, and you'll be rewarded with one to hang on to. Might I recommend the deep bowl, sir? |

Location: Waterloo, IL | Actually, of the two I am leaning more towards to Celebrity at this point after hearing this about the Pacemaker. It would also be a little easier on the wallet, keeping the wife from complaining so loudly about my GAS attack. :) What is your opinion of the Celebrity?

Location: Dallas, GA, USA | It isn't a problem with the guitar itself, rather with who is selling it. If this is the same one, it is listed by a retailer that listed it inaccurately, and after being informed by several people what it was, they still left the wrong info on the item, making me wonder if they care about representing an item correctly to a potential buyer. Besides that, all the negative feedback they have was enough for me. |

Location: the BIG Metropolis of TR | You're absolutly right Barry!! These folks seem only concerned with taking the money and not delivering the product! They've (instrumentexchange) only been online since April 11th (not even 2 mos.) and already have 13 negatives out of 66 transactions (7 just this week - one a day!!!) You probably can't even "trust" that you'll get what you bid on because they have their descriptions all screw up!
How some of these online businesses keep selling is amazing. So Chuck, I would look else where for a 12 string - like:

If I'd hadn't just bought a 1866 Legend 12 string I'd be "all over" this one!!!

Location: Nova Scotia, Canada | I just had to email them to complain about their pitiful generic ads, loaded full of useless information, ie: "Strings: six..."??? and not much of any real value. They would be better served with less BS and more real info and a few good pics.

That Legend looked goood, aren't you in Hank Snow country? I just noted the Nova Scotia address. I was a big Hank Snow fan in the 50's. Tonight is 12 string night this is the 3'd post on the subject and good information is surfacing.
