you can order one from Ovation or do a search and you will find the directions on how to alter an existing cable.

My SMT/Optima works with any mic cable, but my Custom Folklore/Op50 needs the ground to shell mod

If it has an Optima probably not. If it has an Op50 it will need the modded cable

Wouldn't it more sense to modify the jack on the guitar so you could use any XLR cable? I'm not an electronics tech, so if this is a totally stupid question, just say so. Dave

PS, Cliff - Don't you DARE just respond "SO".

The problem is how to tell the preamp that it needs to be "on".

You can use a special or modified XLR cable, or you can stick an plain old 1/4 inch plug in its jack, and that will turn on the preamp. Either one works. There is no phantom power option as far as I can tell.

Charlie - the Optima, OP-50, and OP-Pro (XLR version only) all support phantom power through the XLR connection, per the manuals on Ovation's website.
