Getting this thing up and running is proving a steep learning curve for just super simple looping. Maybe I bought the wrong pedal?

How does one record just a simple loop of random length? I don't want to use the built in rhythm effects, and I don't want to have to stare at the blinking tempo light. I just want to click the button and play at my own tempo for some random amount of time, then stop recording and have it play back without pause.

Adding an overdub would be the next phase.
