Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | When I bought my Black 87C, it was in good shape for its age, but needed some serious cleaning up. Last fall I sent it to the factory to have the bowl sanded clean and re-sprayed to get some nasty adhesive off. While it was there, they buffed it out good as the finish had dulled, probably from smoke, body oil, etc.
Sometime back then, I picked up one of my customs that came with the pearloid tuner buttons. I replaced them with some of Al's rosewood ones, and today finally got around to swapping them out with the old discolored ones on my 87-5. In person, the change is really obvious, but the pictures give you and idea of how grimed up something as small as tuner buttons can get after years of use, blood, sweat, tears, smoke, etc.
It's a small detail that takes less than ten minutes, but I sure do like the difference.
Before
Old vs. New
After (Like so many guitar photos, this one doesn't really do justice to the difference.)
