Hi, I hope I have the nomenclature right. I'm still kind of looking for an acoustic/electric short scale bass. Some of the Celebrity's and Applauses from the 90s were short scale but they did not use battery-powered pre-amps. (That means they're passive pus w/o pre-amps right?) And they only had gain and tone controls. Some reviews say that you really need to add a separate pre-amp to get a good amplified sound. And Ovation quit making this setup. So perhaps it is a real issue. But in the beginning weren't all Ovation guitars pickups only with no preamps? Is the lack of a pre-amp more of a problem with a bass than a guitar?
