Location: PDX | Man, there are plenty of guitars that "get away". Too much G.A.S. and not enough scratch.
The most recent one is that Erich Solomon archtop i posted about a while back. Oh well.

I stand corrected. |

Location: Williston Park, NY | '62 Fender Strat. A guy I knew was trying to sell it to me for a guy HE knew for about $280 in '75 or '76. I played it but didn't buy it because something didn't seem right and I was afraid it was stolen.

Location: Hicksville, NY | Last summer, I was walking towards my car, after I finished teaching a child (with autism) in her home, when a guy in a van pulled over. He asked me if I played guitar, to which I repled with a "yes." The man then asked me if I would be interested in purchasing a really nice guitar. From the back of his van, he showed me a deep bowl legend (model 1617 I think) in near mint condition. He claimed that he needed money really badly and was selling it to me for $300 -- right there on the street! I suspected that it might be stolen, so I walked away. He almost convinced me to make the acquisition when he offered the guitar for $250 for one last time. Being a bottom feeder, I would've purchased the guitar right there if I had the cash at that time. But my conscience got in the best of me, and I didn't want to feel responsible for purchasing stolen goods and/or supporting the man's bad habits (whatever they might be). In a way, a part of me felt that I should've gone to an ATM and made the acquisition, and yet a part of me also felt that I did the right thing by letting it go ... |

Location: south east Michigan | Gil... I think you did the right thing. Buying from the back of a van from a guy passing buy just don't seem right.
And everytime you looked at it you would wonder. |

Location: ms | I tried for years to buy back or replace my first 1868 elite. It really did not sound that great but it was very easy to play, a great couch guitar. I wrote tons of songs on that guitar. I also had a old Gibson Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe in fair shape. I got it for a great price and if i ever find one i can afford i`ll buy it. Its been around the world with the guy thats got it now i even saw it on tv once and in concert a few times. |
