I just purchased a 32 year old L717 Legend, left handed. Unfortunately, when it arrived, the preamp unit had become dislodged and was dangling inside the guitar. My initial reaction was to notify the seller and request a return authorization. After doing so, I tuned the guitar up and played it for a while. It was wonderful. For the past 2 days (while the seller fumbles around with Reverb) I have gone out to my "studio" and played the Ovation with the preamp still dangling inside, rattling around. It occurred to me, the guitar sounded particularly good because of the gaping hole where the preamp should have been...like a sound port. I'm seriously considering keeping the guitar and having the factory electronics removed entirely, leaving the rectangular "sound port". I will then add a pickup of some sort, as I need to play the guitar live on occasion. I'm leaning toward the simplicity of a K&K Pure Mini. Any thoughts/caveats?
