I'm going to jump the gun here and ask what if anything does that mean for US production and repair services....is this good news or will ovation become an import brand I know I saw some special edition guitars made for europe under the GEWA name,folklore slotheads I believe they looked cool but pricey for an import

Remember... To Europeans, USA Ovations are imports.

It seems that DW was content to just cruise along with Asian production sales and never really went all too far out on innovative expansion. GEWA also has a big presence in Asian production, but I am hopeful that they will at least try to expand on models and possibly produce something USA-made in their Maryland facility.. or maybe even something Euro-made in Germany. Could be that Bernie and Detlef will end up sitting on Ovation ground zero should any such type endeavor ever possibly come to be.

Let's hope they know what they are doing. I give DW credit for at least trying to keep the plant going and keeping the custom shop. But their big plan of betting on their fancy veneers was doomed from the beginning.

I'm with Alpep on this. I think the brand will be around for years to come and will likely have some wonderful "made in korea" guitars. But I think anything that resembles an Adamas, anything "hand made," has numbered days at least for the near-term. Maybe 5, 10 or 15 years from now there will be a revival, but I can't see anyone running a factory for round-back guitars in the USA anytime soon, especially CT.

@Standingovation - >>>How many nails does it take ???<<<

For what? To completely kill the brand? I would think it will take many more nails than what have already been driven. What is blatantly obvious however is that the day-to-day-buy-it-on-Sweetwater for $1,200 or less guitars (of any brand) will never see a USA production plant again. Economically impossible. But it's not to say that the Asian-built Ovations aren't quality guitars for their price. They are. I just hope that GEWA will introduce some evolution to the selection of those models so we can see new ones come and old ones go. As for 'possible' USA-made (GEWA has a shop in Maryland), and Euro-made (they have a shop in Germany), maybe we will see some limited-number models like DW did with the anniversary. We can only speculate and hope. If so, just bring a fat checkbook if you want one. I mean, what industry in what market HASN'T gone that way? When's the last time you saw a USA Kirby vacuum for $239.99? It's life on Earth. All of us old geezers should be glad that we were born when we were and have lived in a time to enjoy an abundance of what was available during that glory era.. 'cause it sure in hell isn't coming back. On the bright side, it is us same geezers who are taking care of and preserving what we have from those years and trading them among us.. and for my share of that I am grateful.

imho dw KEPT new hartford alive to get a better price for the company.
USA build cred absolutely helps the bottom line.
but there is not much you can do with 2 people in the shop.

GEWA's not committed to USA builds afaik

The people here haven't been Ovation's target market in 20 years. As people in this thread have said, and I agree, "I have mine". Maybe a few people might buy a new Ovation, but not that many. We'll see what happens.....

"Moving forward, Ovation‘s New Hartford Custom Shop will focus on the manufacturing of high-quality Adamas models."

Interesting. Think we can schedule a Factory Tour next year, Al?

That sounds somewhat promising.

I’m just glad you guys have kept this site up, so I can have the confidence there are more people like me who love the Ovation/Adamas guitars, and that there’s still people buying and selling here.
