Hi all. It seems that this is the only forum I can post in. I just purchased a 1994 Elite 6868. It's in really good shape for being 24 years old. The '94 catalog says that these only came in Cherry Sunburst, Vintage, and Root Beer colors. But mine doesn't seem to really match any of those. I know this is a poor photograph (best I have for now), but does anyone recognize this color? Thanks.

Well, I guess this bulletin board won't let me upload a photo. I have to link to some webhosting service somewhere and I'm not going to do that. Oh, well. *sigh*

Here's one the same color as mine.

It doesn't look like a Cherry Sunburst. But it doesn't look Vintage or Root Beer to me, either.

There should be a -x (x = some number) after the model. e.g. 6868-1 etc.. That extra number is the color code that you can look up in the FAQ

Thanks, Mr. Ovation. Unfortunately (and for some reason that neither I nor the store know), the inside label was gone. There was a six-digit serial number which got me to the year (1994), but then I had to scour through the catalog to try to identify it. The store had it listed as a CS247, some kind of Celebrity model. They also had it priced accordingly. But I managed to narrow it down to the Elite 6868 with Super Shallow bowl. Old OP24, but it works well enough. It's pretty. I like the color, especially for the price I paid. Nice Ovation molded case too. But I just wonder what color it is. It's certainly no big deal. But I knew that this forum would be a good place to ask.

Last noob question for a while (I hope). The neck angle is quite good on this old Ovation. A straight edge down the fretboard hits the bridge only about 1/32" from the top. The action on this guitar is just a tad high. I wouldn't mind lowering it. BUT it has the old OCP-1K pickup in it and I have no idea if Ovation put shims under these like they do some of their other integrated pickups.

Does anyone know if there were "from-the-factory" shims under these OCP-1K pickups? If there aren't I'll just leave the action as is. If there are, I might lower it a bit by removing a shim. But I don't want to mess with a functioning saddle if it can't be adjusted. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Getting my callouses built back up...

Yes, there are usually "from the factory" shims under an OCP-1K saddle.
Usually Three when it is new. But that is usually too high, so one-or-two shims leave immediately.
But... Anything is possible. Take off the strings and look.

Oh, and the chains have been loosed.
You can post elsewhere in the OFC now.

Thanks, Old Man Arthur!

She gets a new set of strings today, so I'll gently lift up the saddle and see if she has shims or not.

I was browsing through some of the old Ovation online catalogs last night and found a Japanese edition that does in fact show my 6868 in full color and it is Root Beer. I do love the color of it, as I've never been a big fan of bursts (just me), but the brown is fairly light for what I would call Root Beer. No matter. What matters is that I love the sound and playability of this guitar. She just rings lush and full through my acoustic guitar amp. Shallow body with a patch of roughness on the lower bout to keep her on my leg. What a great find! I don't know how many homes she's had, but she is mine now!

Wow! Interesting, but I don't see Root Beer there. The closest I see to the actual color of mine is Amber.
