You may need to buy a new handle assembly, or just drill-out the old rivet and install a new one. Maybe just cut the head off of the old rivet with side cutters and push the rest of it into the case outta the way. I hope this helps.

Joined: August 2016 Posts: 18 | Hey OMA Thanks for your advice, but I'd like to avoid pushing the remaining part of the rivet into the inside of te coffin as this gives some annoying rattle when you move the case. Hence my question how to remove the inside... Greetz Alurip

It should be held in place by the Styrofoam of the inside. Plus it would only rattle if you were moving the case around. When you move the case, the handle makes noise, the stuff in the just compartment makes noise... And you make noise while you are walking. You could take the case to a luggage repair shop. They may be able to install a new handle. Or you could just buy a new case. To answer your original question; The foam in the top and the bottom are each a single large piece of Styrofoam. They may or may not be glued to the plastic shell of the the case. I believe that they were originally glued in place. If the case is old enough, the glue may have let-go of it's grip. If that is case... You can take a plastic putty knife, butter knife, or plastic spatula and gently pry them loose. Either they will come loose... Or they will break. Kinda depends on the glue on the inside. Or you could just drill the old rivets out. HERE is someone on the OFC with a similar handle problem. AND HERE is a YouTube video of a guy pulling the guts out of a SKB case. Your case is a TKL case (I think) but the principles are the same. This is how you get the liner out with common kitchen tools. Best of Luck.
