I have had my trusty Folklore since around '95 or so. I have always used it whan I travel especially flying. I have glued the soundboard back on to the bowl and fixed a crack in the top. It has ALWAYS come through for me! It has ALWAYS been a cannon sound wise, and has a fantastic neck, 1 7/8. over the years I have fixed things and upgraded the preamp, but today, I put a new set of strings on it and I heard a cracking noise from the soundboard. I loosened the strings and pressed on the top and CRACK! I think about two braces popped off the soundboard. I got to looking at it and the soundboard is bowled a little, and it is warped around the soundhole but the cutaway. The crack in the top is opened back up and now th soundboard is super spongey.

I am in Dallas, there have got to be some good repair folks down here, I have only been here for 1 1/2 years, so I don't know anybody to fix it. I am not against shipping it to somebody.

What advice do you have?
Bill

I would contact Beal to ask about a good Texas repair shop.
Either through the OFC or maybe thru the "6 String Ranch" on FB.

Of course you could sent it to New Hartford...
But if there is a local shop that can do this it would cut-out shipping time.

There are other Texans on the OFC, hopefully someone will jump in.
If it is just loose braces, a normal shop may be able to fix it.

Really Sorry to read about this.

Man, that was like reading a horror story with a creaking door. But in the meantime, here's to best wishes and happy endings.

Yes, the repair shop stayed open during the Fender Fiasco, the 2014 Shut-down, and now the same folks are building the 50th Anniversary Ovations and 40th Anniversary Adamas.

Who is "Beal"....
A question a Child would ask, but Not a Childish Question.

"Beal" is Bill Kaman, (incorrectly pronounced Beal Cayman).
Bill and the Son of the creator of Ovation.
Now Beal lives at the 6 String Ranch in Austin and is an OFC Member.
He also has many guitars, many of which are NOT Ovations.
But he is someone who lives in TX who might know of local repair shops with a good reputation for repairing Ovations.

Hope that helps.

the only local guy I have used for putting bridges back on is here in Austin and works at Collings for his day job. I'd send it back to the factory.

Ok, so i am seeing my options between having the guitar "fixed" re-topped and just replaced. the things i really loved about the Folklore were the wide fungerboard and the slotted headstock. so i am not really seeing ANYTHING out there for sale that has those two features. so i can hold out and try to find another folklore(which doesnt seem to be a very popular model) or what?
the re-top is the top of my price range, and close to what i would expect to pay if i were to replace my guitar with a "new to me" used guitar, but there arent a ton og guitars with what i like about this one

am i missing any solutions?
