Is the Ovation satin finish like Fender and Gibson satin? I have sold off a couple Fenders because I don't like what happens over time -- it buffs up, in certain spots. For example, under the place your right forearm touches on the body.

I've got my eye on a nice Viper, but I might need to just hold out for a gloss finish. Plus I would really prefer a maple fretboard...

Welcome to the OFC HiHo. I think it is true for all satin finishes regardless of brand, as Beal says, they will get glossy over time. I have 2 iDea "PL" (Platinum satin finish) Os, one bought new and the other used, but they both have "glossed-up" through the years. Like you, I'm not particularly fond of the "glossing-up" so I'm in the middle of refinishing one of them with walnut stain and natural polyurethane finish. Good luck finding the Viper of your dreams!
