Well, just spoke to the wife and the guitar is there. A few questions though.

What is the best way to store it? Should I leave it in the case or hang it. If I hang it, will it cause any problems? I'm assuming it should not be a humid room or big swings in temp. Should I put a dehumidifier in it either way?

If I do hang it, what type/brang hanger works best with the ovations. (This is a SS)

What's the best way to clean the Textured Top?

Thanks,
Justin

It would be a shame to have this as a wall ornament, but worse to have it just sit in the case for years. Hang it on the wall. I think the brand I use is String Swings or something like that. They're pretty sturdy and simple. A good Hercules stand would also work well as would a Hercules wall hanger. I can't tell you how to clean the textured top except to vacuum or otherwise dust it.
Keep the humidity above 40. I would think that an in the guitar humidifier would work better if you only have one Adamas guitar hanging on the wall.

Actually, you WANT some humidity (about 40-50%) for a wood-top, especially if your house is centrally heated or cooled. Too dry and a wood-top can buckle, bow, or even crack. Don't know if Adamii are as susceptible to drying out as wood-tops - others here know more than I do about that.

Edit - the best wall hangars are Hercules.

Dunlop makes a spray on cleaner/polish that works well on textured tops. Adamai are not really susceptible to the terrors of wood tops, but left in a bad environment long enough, I've seen plastic rust. And...a hanging guitar is a played guitar. Put it in the case, and it won't get used near as much. When they're just staring at you from the wall, it makes you more apt to pick them up. +1 on the Herc hangers.

Jim just trades it for a clean one with new strings. On the Hercules hangers, I have 3 that turn because I needed the room. I don't think they are as strong as the String Swings. One of the screws that came with the Hercs snapped off as I was screwing it in. I am sure that they are more than adequate and the little clamping fixture is kind of cool, but I prefer something that seems to be over engineered.
Of course the strongest hanger isn't any good if it pulls out of the wall, so be sure you mount it correctly.

I have just gone 6 months without buying a guitar for anyone. Longest drought since I signed up for the OFC.

Well, I really torn...I would like to keep it in the family and not have it messed up if my kids, their kids, etc... want it. However, I'd hate to not be able to look at it. I don't play at all...What would YOU do?

Storage:
1)If you trust your kids, your wife or yourself, then by all means keep them on a stand or hanging.
2)If your family members are like mine, where in the most adorable fashion they can destroy your most loved possessions, keep them in their cases.

Should I put a dehumidifier in it either way?

Since you don't know the humidity it makes no sense. Buy yourself a hygrometer. If it's too humid then put in descant, if a case; if a room, then a dehumidifier. It it's not humid enough, then put in an in case humidifier; or a room humidifier depending.

If I do hang it, what type/brang hanger works best with the ovations. Herucles makes great stuff.

Dunlop 65.

Good luck!

Stand is definately not an option with a 3 and 5 year old running around. I will probably do the hanging. Just worried that it will get ruined. As far as a hygrometer, I'm sure I can find one pretty easy. I have a saltwater fish tank and plenty of people I know have 500 gallon+ systems which will simply peel the paint off your walls, mold, rust, etc...so I'm sure someone has one laying around. What range do I want it to be to just make sure everything is where it needs to be?

Thanks everyone!

Learn how to play - what a fabulous guitar to do so. If your time is short (as it probably is with 2 small kids) there are plenty of Internet lessons that'll at least get you started on some easy chords. I dare say there are a lot of folks on this board who are either mostly, if not entirely, self taught.

EDIT - just realized this is post # 666 for me and I didn't do anything evil

maybe you didn't actually buy it, but you certainly had a lot of influence on my buying the 1718. :D

Depends on what the last one was and in my case, it depends on what stupid promises you made as you were out of your mind opening the box of the OFC guitar.

I'd recommend hanging. My guitars are all hanging on the wall -- with Hercules hangers.

I still have to get carpeting and new counter tops before I can get another guitar. Boy, that mandolin I bought from Miles sure was costly!!! :D

I do have a factory refresh coming back soon... that's almost like a new guitar. That'll have to tide me over until... whenever.
