How do these guitars sound plugged in? Do you need to add anything to them so they sound full and rich? I'm looking for an easy to play 12 string to play in church.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

Jim

I ordered mine from the factory through Al in Vintage Sycamore flame maple to match my EA-68. Typical wide 12 string neck, excellent action, very easy to play, perhaps a tad more chimey than a purely acoustic 12 string (I also have an 1866 SSB), and the chambered mahogany body reduces or eliminates the feedback issue of acoustics at higher volumes. If you like the EA Vipers generally, or prefer the feel of a slim electric guitar over an acoustic, then you should have no problem enjoying the EA 12 stringer. Finding one might be difficult. They're also relatively heavy compared to an acoustic. I use a custom patch on a Zoom A2.1u where I've added a tiny bit of compression to the Adamas model simulation found in the 0 bank presets, but nothing else, and certainly no reverb or chorus as a matter of course (I have other custom presets for these combinations, but rarely use them with a 12 string) . Is the sound full and rich? Certainly is to my ears! With the EA-58 and the 1866 (plus a pristine Hurricane I prefer to just look at), I have never gassed for another 12 string. Good luck with your quest.

Thanks Professor. Appreciate benefiting from your experience with the EA 12 stringer. I have a Tamo Ash 6 string and find it very easy to play. And that lead me to wonder about the 12 string versions.

Any idea how many were built?

Jim,

I am guessing the majority were special order.  It has been awhile since I have seen one on the secondary market.

WOW! I just received my USA made Viper 12er and oh my, is this baby nice. There aren't many of these around. The action is as low as a nice electric 6 string. Cords are so easy on this guitar it feels like I'm cheating....just the way I like it. The tone is very nice but I'm finding I need a monitor while playing at church because I can't hear very much (which wasn't a problem when I played my Adamas 12 string).

A big Thank You to Professor BB for his comments that led me to purchase this black beauty.

Very cool, SJ. Hope you enjoy it as much I have mine. Which color model is it? Besides the pair in Vintage Sycamore flame maple, I also have Tamo Ash 6 string plus a natural honey finish model I picked up from Patch here on the OFC. Love 'em all.
