Hi,

I'm looking at a 1995 Longneck with a OP-24 preamp in it. It has a round volume and slider bass, mid and treble controls.

First, any opinions of this preamp? And second, is it possible to upgrade to a later preamp with built in tuner?

Many thanks,
Dave

Hmm........dunno. The preamps, with tuners, that I'm familiar with, are the kidney-shaped type. I believe yours is the rectangular type.
Could be mistaken, and not the first time.

I agree with seesquare regarding the kidney shaped preamps with tuners however, there does appear to be a couple of exceptions - the OP24+C and the Optima.
I would imagine the OP24+C would be a straight swop for yours 'hole wise' but I don't know about the wiring - It would probably need an extra circuit to cover the tuner.
This is all conjecture and I am sure there are many people out there a lot more knowledgeable than me who can give you more positive advice.

In the meantime have a look at www.ovationtribute.com scroll down and click on preamps to give you an idea of what I am talking about.

Best of luck James.

Thanks for the advise and the very cool link to the Ovation Tribute site! Anyone have any opinions as to the sound quality of the OP-24?

The OP-24 sounds fine, and the battery will last forever.

OP-24? That's a new one for me - I've only seen them with the OP-X and then the Optima.

If you can find one, the Optima is the way to go. I had one in my DS-768 and it was great.
