Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | Anyone know if these old Folklores are any good? Here's one at Guitar Center. But I'm not familiar enough with the old Folklores to know if they have the good bracing and tone that make some Ovations sound so fantastic.

Since this is a used item, I believe that you will have to contact that particular GC outlet anyway.
But yeah... Folklores are getting scarce y'know.

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | It's gone because it's on it's way to my home in OH. I pulled the trigger on this one rather quickly. I called the G Center in Oregon and asked the salesman to describe all the flaws he could see in the guitar. According to him, it's in very nice (but not perfect) condition. No buzzing and the frets are in excellent shape. The G Center policy for Vintage Guitars is "you have 3 days from taking delivery" to decide if you really like it.
Ironically, I often play a 12 string with the same Nut Width, so I think I should be OK with this one. I've always wanted to learn fingerstyle and this looks like my opportunity.
Now, I just need to find a way to ask my wife if I can get it!?!?. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The only problem I've had with the Folklore nut width is on barre chords at the lower frets. There's a bit of a radius to the fretboard, which makes it better than a flat fretboard like a classical guitar. The seemingly incremental difference between it and the Ute makes a significant difference in playing those barre chords.
The flip side to that is it's great for open chords. The spacing is wide enough to get your fingers a little off without muting the next string over. For fingerstyle it works great as long as your left hand hits the right strings. |

Mark: How do you find the tone of your Folklore? Is it something you enjoy or does it sound cheap (which is always my biggest worry when I buy a guitar without getting to play it first)? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I love the tone of the Folklore. To me, it has that deep bowl Ovation sound, moreso than the Elites. The 12 fret neck adds to it. I got mine about the time everyone on this board was raving about the Folklore Deluxe. When I played one of those, I didn't like it any more than my Folklore. Having 30 years of age on the top certainly helps, too. |

And if I had known that this guitar was nearby in Oregon you might not have gotten it.

Well, i'm not Mark, but mine's 40 years old and one of the best sounding wood topped guitars you'll ever play. Your insecurities about old Folklores is unfounded. I think you're going to be VERY pleasantly surprised. One thing I would suggest is to assign certain songs that you ONLY play on the Folklore. Going from one nut width to another for the same song will mess with your muscle memory. I only use mine for fingerpicking songs. If I'm strumming and using barre chords, my other favourite guitar gets used. (I've only got 2 favourite guitars now) |

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | OK...here's the scoop. Things went rather well tonight with the ol "hey, can I use the money from the sale of this guitar to buy a different guitar?". She said "sure, I don't care". But the new guitar will be here in a couple days (it already shipped) and I haven't sold the old one yet. I'm going to be I get a couple stern questions about this arrangement a week from now.
By the way Arthur....thanks for the fantastic video of your Folklore...awesome. My feelings have changed from reservation to excitement! If mine sounds that nice, I'll be a happy guitar player. And I love the old antique lookin sunburst. |
