I just purchased one of these online.(so I could use my PayPal guitar money)
And I am fishing for comments.
Mostly from owners of the original G-DEC I guess, cuz this is new. I couldn't get mine for Sweetwater cuz theirs ain't in stock yet.
I played with one yesterday at GC...
It has fourteen drum/bass backing lines with adjustable tempo and key.
But unlike the the original G-DEC you don't need to 'program' it... I just has knobs like my MicroCube. 
I cannot deal with setting-up those things. That is why I have a Zoom G1X that I never use.
This is a 15 watt, 8" Speaker little thing. It has multiple amp and effects settings, but just a tone knob with no real EQ. But my guitars have EQ. I also has an E-only tuna...
Personally, I want it for a learning tool. I think I need the easily accessible backing tracks to work on my lack of rhythm/timing. Plus I can run the 'Chicago' blues setting and play blues lead over that... Keep me busy for hours.
Reviews and YouTube mention that this is just a simple rig for us cyber-dummies.
Just looking for input... I will let y'all know what I think in about a week when I get it.

Location: New South Wales, Australia | I've got a G-DEC Arthur. Had it for nearly two years now and it's a great little practice "toy". Hours of fun but it can get a bit monotonous after a while.
Mine has 50 presets I think although there's some I'd never use. And I've recently worked out how to add and save my own settings without deleting the ones that are already on there. The instruction book was not real helpful but it's a pretty easy thing to use. I managed to get a fair bit of info off a couple of websites.
I've even used it in a couple of gigs (going through a PA) and it's handled it well.
If you're using it primarily for practise and as a learning tool I reckon it's ideal for the job particularly if you want to play some blues scales or pentatonic stuff. The way you can change tempo and keys of the backing tracks is also helpful.
Mine has a phrase sampler (not sure if the junior has one) where I can play a CD through it and record small sections for playback at half speed if I want. It'll even isolate the main instruments on the track, rhythm, lead, bass and drums.

It do have a midi input in the back. They say so that you can run samples from your computer...
But if I am in the same room with my computer, I will just play through them through that... eh?
(That is my home stereo too... If my computer dies, I'm just screwed! :rolleyes: )
This is just a fancier version of my Micro-Cube...

Got the G-DEC as soon as it appeared on the market , great fun , useful and wellmade , once I had it standing on a bigger rig with a short cable connected to my jazzbox , the telephone rang , I reached for it and the DEC tumbled on the floor , but that drummer kept on going , the headphone out is in STEREO !!...audible on the drummer , where ya can hear where the tams , cymbals , etc. are , is the headphone-out on the J also in stereo ?
Coupling the headph. to the PA = Great Sound :)
The only manual that came with mine was a strip of cardboard connected to the straplugs , however , it`s selfexplanatory , I have n`t used the midi in/out , but it seems that using that feature will sync. yer comp. with it.
I regard it to be a great tool , as opposed to it being just a mere novelty , Good going ;)

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | This was a spur-of-the-moment decision. I never even plugged a guitar into either of them...
But the G-DEC and the G-DEC Jr were out there and plugged-in to electricity, and I went over and played with them both side-by-side.
The I could get the fifty pre-sets on the G-DEC Sr, but the Junior was much simpler.
[I have an amp with 198 pre-sets... and I use two!]
I figure the simpler one will be good for my purposes.
Just doodling around like I do now, only with rhythm. Just reach down to change the tempo.
Plus it was $120 cheaper...
[If I get bored with it in six months I can sell it for $99 :rolleyes: ]
Plus, it is a Fendrovation product, so I am maintaining brand loyalty. :p |
