Location: Los Angeles | Hello to fellow Ovationists! This is my first post!!
Picked up a road-worn ovation yesterday. Horrible action...didn't care, got it for $99 bucks with beat case. Cleaned, restrung, went to check out for a truss adjustment and taking the cover off discovered the GC signature, face down. I guess the last guy didn't play GC style. Not that I do, but I'm proudly displaying it now, even with the freakin' hole #$@!face drilled through the plate. Anyway, it has a natural finish, a sort of brownish bowl...anybody seen this color? It has electronics...don't know if they're orig. It's an 1127-4, SN 130404.....made in 68'???
My real question: Is there a special truss rod wrench available to adjust the neck..the action is outside my acceptable limits. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | It's a 1/4 inch nut driver I think. Maybe 1/8? any hardware shop should have them, the factory may have some truss rod wrenches left. Go to the Hareware store and I'm sure they can help you.
Wait a minute, is that age showing? Are there hardware stores anymore? Or have they all been replaced by Home Depot?
Also you will probably want to get rid of that truss rod cover! There are several on this board who have been looking for a LONG time for one and would be happy to take it off your hands! |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | What kind of condition is that trussrod cover in? A Glen Campbell trussrod cover went for around $50 recently on Ebay, and there was plenty of interest in it. Your bargain guitar just became an even bigger bargain :D Btw, welcome to the site! |

Location: SoCal | Go to your local guitar store. They'll have to proper wrench for the truss rod.
As for the GC cover, don't listen to cwk2. Enjoy it on your guitar. You've got a good instrument. Set it up and play away. |

Location: NJ | a word of caution makes sure that wrench fits correctly if it does not and you strip the nut you can always make a clock or salad bowl out of the guitar. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Good Advice from Al. It is a brass nut and will round out easily. Call the factory, they can tell you the right size. I'm bad with numbers. |

Location: Dallas | You guys are great, Al you and Cwk2,Rich, and Moodypi, would make Chuck real glad if he sees this. I know the dudes at
guitar chat would've told him to go to Auto zone for a monkey wrench. Not here.... Good job I couldn't have said it better, except that a flower pot, or lamp shade/salad bowl combo bowl, did come to mind.
Also clockwise tightens, counter/clockwise loosens, and I don't think those nuts are meteric, like they said check first, and enjoy that puppy with those new strings. I also have a 1127-4 but can't seem to identify the serial #M-293 for some reason. It has to do with Miles being AWOL now :rolleyes: Have Columbo on it too.

Location: Los Angeles | Wow, really had to do some major right tighty cranking on the GC's truss nut...and BTW:
Da truss nut is a nice tight 1/4" dimension
The neck responded fantastically to my adjustment.
NOW the problem...(the guitar has a nice round projecting sound) the high E is somewhat "dead".
ANY comments appreciated in regard to a fix. The only thing I can think of is the fact there's not much down angle at the tuning peg due to few string wraps...let me know if this makes any sense. The problem is a bummer because it's the only thing hold back the true voice of this guitar.
