The Corrs (as a band) are GOOD!
But I always find I have to "glean" through their CDs to get the good stuff. They really crank on some of the more traditional Irish tunes, but a lot of their stuff (to me anyway) sounds too much like Stevie Nicks after mainlining an overdose of saccharin.

Maddy Pryor! (from Steeleye Span)

Sweetwater. Yeah, I remember them but I don't remember her name. They were actually the band that OPENED the Woodstock Festival. I guess they didn't get the tape and the film loaded into the machines till Richie Havens got on stage.

alpep and cliff: Wow! Talk about memories! Sweetwater AND It's a Beautiful Day!

Ahhhh ... Woodstock! The original! One lesson learned, tho: NEVER, NEVER go to an event where the porta-potty ratio is 300,000:1

Also remember that CS&N got their start from Woodstock!

Pretty cool list up thar of female singer/songwriter/guitar players.. Can't say I agree about Jewel, I kinda like her delivery. Expecially after hearing someone else trying to sing one of her tunes without running out of breath. I also don't think Alanis is very angry, quite the opposite. She was a bit miffed with a few boyfriends, but mostly it's just pop with some really creative lyrical hooks. She can go down on me in a theater anytime.. (her words not mine). I would also add the Wilson sisters to the list, they also play those funny looking roundback guitars on occation.
From the new crop, Christina Aguilara and Pink and one other that just hit the charts have real talent. Britney is an entertainer (her words) so she isn't in this conversation. In 20 years she will be known for modeling or acting or something, music was just a way to get her out there. When Sherly Crow sings I yawn... I don't know why, cause I think she's good. As a singer, songwriter, producer, and guitarst, good but I still just yawn.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Yes, Sweetwater and Beautiful Day, what a flash back that is!!!
Now I had heard at one time that the LaFlammes were from New Hartford. Can anyone confirm this?
She sang and brother David played violin.

what jewel does is called yodeling. I suggest you seek out some slim whitman if that thing appeals to you.

I always loved the violin in a rock band few have done it successfully. among the best IMHO are:
It's a beautiful day
the flock
jean luc Ponty (zappa)
doug Krenshaw (ok he was more country)
papa john creach ( hot tuna jefferson airplane and starship)
Scarlet rivera (bob dylan)
suki ( early on with bruce springsteen)
laurie anderson
the corrs

it would be cool to find out what happened to the Laflamnes stellar musicians IMHO.

Violin in Rock, YES!! Let us not forget a lot of the early Aerosmith tunes, like Dream On has some cool Violin in it. Then of course there's ELO, but that's expected. Violin was often used in early Rock, Blues and Country to "fix" bad guitar notes, or vocals. Sometimes just one well places bow would keep a tape out of the trashcan. Same for Horns. Check out the cool Baratone sax on "Big Ten Inch" by Tyler and the gang.

Norse(spentherentmoney)man1, I seem to have joined the over 100 post club, by also saying substantially nothing also. I am slowing beginning to feel the effects of it as told. Does any body really know what time it is? Does anybody really care?

Heck guys, I'm pushing towards 500 posts. I think that about 350 of those were crying over my broken Viper pickguard.

Paul

You make me feel so dang sorry for you that I am tonight removing my Viper pick gaurd and faxing it to you, if you will give me a fax number. Just give me some time to get it off and get to a fax. Now if someone will fax me one to replace mine we'll all be even.

One for all, and all for one!
