Location: Fort Worth, Texas | Grabbed the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram (or as we call it the Startlegram)this morning and there on the front page is an article about TCU head football coach Gary Patterson. Not only has he led the usually hapless Horned Frogs to a 10-0 season and possible bid to the BCS (have a tough game tonight against Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg) - he's a guitar player and on the front page photo he has an Ovation sitting in his lap!! Looks like a Legend. Apparently he's been playing guitar since high school days, and performed all through college, etc. There's another photo of him with a hollow body electric, but I can't tell what brand that one is. Cool.
See it here:

Location: Fort Worth, Texas | Man, you guys are good, I looked on the Ovation site in the discontinued items and looks like it is this Ultra:
Ultra barn board finish
With that really interesting finish...
Cool again! |

Moody's observation of the rosewood kinda sent me in that direction, but if you compare rosettes you'll notice a difference. The "leaves" on the Ultra rosettes are little bigger and "tighter together" leaving less negative area around them than their domestic counterparts, and that's what gave it away to me (it's a "graphics thing" ;) ). |

Location: Waurika OK | Since Paul brought up an Ovation sighting, I have a couple to report:
While watching the History or Discovery channel a couple of weeks ago about some place off the s.e. coast of England, an area of sand bars that has ruined many a ship, some people came and sang songs for the lost sailors and the guy with the guitar was playing an Ovation.
Then on Nic at Night, this while channel surfing and making my wifes eyes roll until she falls out on the floor, there was a show called the Garcia Brothers, one of the guitar players was playing an Ovation.
We are beginning to sound like ufo watchers, "There's another one!"
Maybe we are! Unidentified Found Ovation watchers!

Location: KY | Here's another one: I went to see Elton John in Duluth, GA a couple nights ago, and his guitarist, Davey Johnstone, at different points in the show played two different Ovation 6 strings, an Ovation 12 string, and an Ovation mandolin. (Excellent show, by the way!) |
