Location: Fort Worth, Texas | My wife and I went to see Leo Kotke last night. Last time I saw him was many moons ago at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin. This time it was at the Bass Performance Hall's rehearsal space. My first time at this venue, holds about 200 people, so pretty intimant.
He played and talked for 90 minutes, no intermission. It was a great evening of incredible guitar playing and irreverant stories and such. Kudos to the man for maintaining over 30 years of guitar virtuousity!

Location: south east Michigan | I have been trying to expand my music listening habits and have recieved suggestions from OFC members. A couple weeks ago I went into Borders and bought a Leo Kotke CD. I had never heard of him before, I just read the liner notes and took a chance. I am enjoying it. Perhaps there is a little more slide work than I am looking for but it's a start.

Location: SoCal | The Armadillo World Headquarters! Man but that brings back memories. When I was going to school at UT back in the mid 70's, I saw BB King there, and Loggins Y Messina. What a great place it was. |

You know I just found out a couple of weeks ago that Bozo lives near me in Lindenhurst, about a 20 minute drive from here.
I wonder if he has a few extra guitars laying around his place that he'ld like to get rid of?

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | I first saw Leo at UC Berkeley in 1976, after buying "Ice Water" in 1974 (Lackland AFB- June- 95 degrees, and humidity- ugh). He was phenomenal, and I have been a devotee since. Anyrate, he was unable to play 12-string for a few years due to hand problems. Apparently, someone handed him a Taylor, and the rest is history. He is one of their technical advisors, and, I'm sure, compensated well. I would like to believe, it was a timing issue. Hypothetically, if someone had handed him a deep-bowl Adamas (sorry, I'm not as good at the numbers thing), we might be counting him among the Ovation crew, instead. I don't know. The way he tweaks his sound, and knowledge of the technical aspects of acoustical dynamics, makes me wonder.
Yeah, his humor is delightfully eccentric, isn't it? "My dad still believes the fart is the best means of self-defense." I love that line. |
