Location: Central Florida | I just picked up my '68 Deluxe Balladeer and discovered a section of the top (approx. 5" in length) is seperating from the binding down at the lower bass bout. Is that the kind of thing that a local repair person can fix, or am I looking at having to send her back to the factory? Also, in the meantime should I loosen the strings or do anything to keep it from potentially getting worse?
Thanks in advance for your input...

Location: south east Michigan | I bet it will have to be a factory fix. Since it is that old (and probably valuable) I would not trust it to anyone else. The guys who built it will care enough to make it right.

Location: Central Florida | I'm sorry... I meant that I just picked it up to play it, not that I just received it. I've owned it for almost three years.
I'll give Kim Keller a call and see what he says.
Thanks,

My '68 GC had some binding separation right in the waist area of the treble side when I got it. I took it to a store that sells Ovations, so therefore has worked on them. He glued it and used a jig of some sort to hold the bowl and binding against the top as it set up. It has been AOK since. This guy is a whiz kid at guitar repairs.
However, if there is no one in your area with whom you are comfortable with, call Kim for the location of the nearest Ovation Service center.

Location: SoCal | I respect everything Wayne says, but I'd still send it to Ovation and have them do the work there. At the same time, they can give the guitar a once over and make everything right. |

Location: Central Florida | Thanks guys for all the great advice.
I didn't get a chance to call Kim today, but I did go to the Ovation web site and found an authorized service center not too far from me. I may take it by there just to see what they say and to get an idea what I may be looking at cost wise. I do prefer the idea of sending it back to the factory, because I know they will tweak it and do whatever's necessary to bring it up to top playing order. I'm just afraid that may be a little cost prohibitive right now. I'll find out though and keep you posted. Thanks again...
