Spent most of my last guitar lesson talking about Ovation history and design with my teacher. One question that came up the neither he nor I could answer, "Why is the sound hole so big?" Its about an inch larger than a regular classical guitar. Any ideas? Thanks, Joe

I suspect that they didn't really model the classical Ovations after classical guitars, so they didn't go with the small soundhole. I have played a few really expensive classical guitars, though, and don't remember the soundholes being smaller. Don't know if there is a "standard". If you look at my picture on the Social Network site (I'd do a link, but it takes me too long) it shows me tuning a $15,000 classical guitar in Barcelona. The soundhole looks like the same size as the Ovations.

Classical guitars have comparably smaller bodies, so their soundholes are usually a little smaller, around 3.5 to 3.75inches in diameter. Hardly a huge difference. Size of the soundhole needs to be "tuned" with respect to the body volume (capacity). Professor Templeman please take over... As the Celeb classic is based on an Ovation steelstring body-size a standard 4inch soundhole would be expected.
