And perhaps he was quite content with it, perhaps blissful even, until he discovered this lovely site and started reading "nice" comments about that guitar like, "It sounds really good for the price," interspersed with praise toward an enigmatic yet accessable force of nature known as the "Great and Benevolent Al." Now the symptoms of G.A.S start slowly appearing. The man tries in vain to supress what he believes are irrational and even impure thoughts. He continues to lovingly use and adore the instrument he has and yet -- his desire for a more refined and advanced (more expensive) model begins to fill his thoughts. And now the man faces a difficult choice. Unlike many of this special gathering who have obtained multiple instruments of mysical music making, this man of humble means can only aspire to obtain one other guitar. And so he must choose wisely. As of now there are a few devices currently available that many in this gathering have expressed praise for (AD-II, 1719-30CM). There is also the promise of things to come (OFC, 05 Adamas). And one kind soul is offering up an older prized possesion (Jeff's 1537). Before this young man (at least he still looks it) is driven insane, can some wise sage offer his expert advice and help him decide what instrument to obtain?

The practical answer..... It kinda depends on how much you want to spend and what type of guitar you really want. The holy trinity seems to be the FD14, the 1719CM, and the 1537. If you like a 12 fret model (since the FD14 is very hard to get), the limited edition black 12 fret Adamas that ships in March would make an excellent choice. Everyone that has played it has fallen in love with it. I am lucky enough to have the 3 guitars mentioned and I have my order in to Al for one of the 12 Fret Ltd Ed Adamas. I am confident it will fit in perfectly with the others mentioned. Soundwise, you can do a search to see the various comments but my thoughts: 1537 - warm and woody. 1719CM - crisp and clean, FD14 - a combination of the 1st two. Good luck...you can't go wrong with any of the guitars on your wish list. They are all exceptional!

I'm willing to pay for quality, but won't buy something more expensive just because it sounds "different." If it sounds awesome and plays awesome it will be mine. The difficulty is in actually getting my hands on one to try out.

You gotta learn this lateral thinking, it'll save you a bomb.

If price is no object, maybe the #47 reissue. I have never been lucky enough to play that one but I am sure there are many memebers here who could give you a good hands on description. It is on my short list of guitars I would still like to play and maybe own.

I have one of it's siblings (#54) which is pretty much the same guitar, but is blue instead of red. It's a hard guitar to put into words, as it has a very unique sound. cwk2 quipped when he picked up mine last year ". . . they just don't sound like anything ELSE . . " Let's put it this way . . . if you were playing in a room with other acoustic guitars being played, . . . you'd be very hard-pressed to NOT stand out in the crowd. Don't know how expensive they're gonna be, but if you're "into" Adamases, and they do these up right (and I'm EXTREMELY confident that they will), if you can afford one, grab one. This'll be a guitar you won't be jettisoning on eBay in a few years . . .

The U681T, the Adamas I and II were limited editions with only 100 of each being produced. Al....can you please clear this up for us? Is #47 a limited run? Will OFC only be offered in blue or will we have a choice (cause I want the redburst like #47)! Thanks

So the slot head will not be limited to 100 guitars according to what the information I have." So, OFC will be the rare one in blue...
