Hi guys. I recently acquired a 1768-C made in 1993. I have specs for the 1768, but does the "C" denote cedar or a special color or what? It looks like cedar and sounds awesome, but I just can't find any particulars on this specific model. Help!

A Deep bowl Elite with a Cedar Top - sound must be rich and deep!

I would have thought that the model would be C768-4 or something. Pictures would be really good at a time like this!

Ovation built a cedar topped Elite for a couple of years, the theory being that cedar sounds like aged spruce, right off the bat. It should be a great sounding guitar. Send a fax number to me at moody.pi@cox.net and I'll see if I can find something in a catalog on it for you.

I sent you an email with my fax number. I could send pics, but it looks pretty much like any other 1768 except for the label that denotes it as a 1768-C and the wood grain and color that really, really look like cedar. I have another 1768 and this one doesn't sound anything like it. This 1768-C sounds as close to my FD-14 as any other guitar that I've come across.

Hi,

I've found some informations about a 1768-4C.
Not sure it's your guitar model
The "C" is for "solid Cedar satin finish".
Look at page #14 of this 1996 catalog:
1996 Ovation Catalog

Hey!!! Thanks to Paul and Jerome for finding info about my guitar! Paul...was the fax you sent me from the 1993 catalog or a later one? I wonder why they stopped making the cedar Elite. It really sounds awesome. To my ear it sounds crisper and more clear than my other 1768, but then again, it may be just a difference in these particular guitars. Anyway, just wanted to thank you guys!

It was from a fold out brouchure that Ovation put out somewhere in that time. There's no year on it, but 1993 sounds about right.

When I got my 1537 (that same year), I found it used in a Guitar Center. The salesman tried to sell me on a cedar topped Elite, but it was one of the few times in my life when, in my ignorance, I made the right decision. Buying the 1537 was the best guitar purchase of my life.

I have the 12 string 1538 and love the sound, look and feel. I have heard such rave reviews about the 1537 that I may have to save my pennies and invest in one!
Thanks again for the help.
