I finished reading "The Book" and enjoyed it immensely. It covers some years and Ovation history that I was aware of from the ads and the guitars in the stores, but did not know what was happening behind the scenes. I was an avid reader of guitar magazines in the late 70's and early 80's, and a hanger around at music stores to the extent of attending some LA NAMMs as a guest of Poway Music. Since I had a Viper, I followed the development of the acoustics but never could afford one as I was supporting a bluegrass band with PA systems and mandolins etc.

Anyway, it is a great book and I can see why CWKII has the inside story on almost every thing Ovation. It raises the question in MY mind of "Why wasn't an Ovation resonator guitar developed and marketed?" I suppose we will never know.

The reception desk was a stock guitar . . .

. . . they just hired a really, REALLY, small receptionist . .

THE RECEPTION DESK!!!

That was my choice for the LX series, I dreamed of the bass sound of that guitar, when I wasn't dreaming of the receptionist.

The only guitar that would have saved lives on the Titanic, think about it, it might save the receptionist when the environment turns upside down as shown in that movie.

I dream of walking into that reception area and body picking, it's too big for finger pickin', a thunderous chorus of "Wildwood Flower" in an audio range that instigates sexual arousal in receptionists to the point of ignoring that I am old and ugly.

Deny it if you like, but you all have the same dream.

I'm awaiting the arrival of The Book. Bailey sent it off & it should be arriving any time. Can't wait to see my trinket.

Moodi p.i. is next on the list. Please email me your snail mail at some point Paul. I have your trinket all ready to go. It's distinctively 'Central Oregon', known the world over & I'll bet you've never seen one! In fact, I would be very surprised if any of you have ever seen one. It's also totally worthless!

I wonder how many times the 'Book' is going to cross the country.

Nah. You can get those anywhere. The ONLY place you could get one of these is from Central Oregon & new ones haven't been available for 20 years.

Guys... any chance of getting a UK name on the list? Obviously I'll refund the last person's postage, and send it back really quickly.

Just thought it would be a scary way to get the mileage through the roof!!

No worries if not, just a thought to add to the novelty of the idea...

I would like to see the UK contingent start a book and then ship it out when you think you all had a pass at it! It would be more economic.

Many books could be circulating!

I'm talking about some right out of the still that I bought in 1955 and later hid in my mansion at Graceland. If the people who investigated my "death" had found some of that and had it analyzed, they certainly would have listed it as one of the causes of death if taken in any significant quantity. Just a hint of it's effectiveness, every time I took a swaller, my legs would shake, my hips would gyrate, my lips would curl and I would shout out the debbil's music. This caused many healthy girls to shriek and faint.

Jerry Lee Lewis had the same bootlegger, as did many black Mississippi "dirty" blues players that I admired and copied.

I will never reveal where that 50 gallon Oak barrel is hidden (40 paces through the gate, stagger 30 paces right, 70 paces zig zag to large magnolia tree, stick bung (or tongue) in knothole on NE side 4.5 feet from ground (Barrel is imbedded in tree trunk), no torture could ever get that out of me and cause a run on Graceland by young wannabees.

Yes 50 year old Mississippi whisky does exist.

Good thought, that man. Leave that with me, and I'll see if I can dig up a copy from somewhere...

This just in from our correspondent (Whippy Floogenfluster) at Graceland:

A polyglot, crapped out group of ancient and well used vehicles, some with camper shells and some with the detritus of years of living trailing behind, pulled up this morning when the museum opened and various Elvis impersonators got out and walked 40 paces through the gate, staggered through a pattern as if memorized and zig zagged towards a large magnolia tree. They then appeared to sexually attack the tree, and attempt to take away sap in various containers of dubious and reprehensible appearance. They all then left the grounds and as they sampled their "sap", their legs twitched, their hips swiveled and their lips curled as they shouted the Debbil's music. Healthy young ladies shrieked and fainted as they saw them, mostly they shrieked with derisive laughter and fainted from laughing so hard.

Some of the Elvis impersonators were carrying an excellent type of guitar with a round back that almost made up in sound for the ridiculous vocals. The mode of dress semed to lean toward mauve shirts.

Whippy Floogenfluster signing off from the most unusual story I have covered, Does anybody there know what the initials OFC stand for??
