I just recieved an applause ae48 from musicians friend today, and for 229 including a gig bag and shipping, I believe it to be a fantastic deal, far from perfect, the electronics blow, the low e is almost unamplified, with the g about 30%louder than the others, sounds very nice unplugged, going to try and install a new pickup and opl24+ preamp, the action is far better than expected, the frets were very well dressed, up to the 10'th,from there up it makes a wonderful cheese grater, while annoying, easy enough to fix, the show stopper is the look of the guitar,I got it in autumnburst, the top has a fairly heavy amount of quilt and a smattering of birdeye, I was so stunned I almost dropped it when I unwrapped it,the top has more visual movemement than my claro walnut bass, I highly reccomend checking them out, for the price it cant be beat, and with a little work, I think its going to be a wonderful instrument

I picked up a similar unit as a Christmas gift this last season. I was impressed with the feel and the action as well as the sound that came out. I plugged into an electric's amp just enough to make sure it worked. You are right, for an entry amount you can get a tough little unit!

The recipient was happy too!
