OK, don't flame me. Just asking a question.

I got a w597 from Al a few months ago. Yep, it is a flawwed top one. Let me state that I LOVE the sound this thing makes. Problem is... I'm not crazy about the color. It is a reverse burst blue.

Anyway, my question is "What is involved in changing the color of the top?" Short of getting a can of quick-dry Krylon from Lowes, what else can I do?

Will removing the strings, bridge, and neck, then taping up the epulets and having it painted work? Any ideas? I would kinda like a black face, like Kyle's Adamas (sorry for the rip Kyle).

Hey ttenn,
If you go through all the trouble of removing the strings, bridge, and neck then you can just as easily remove the epulets.......then you can paint the top using a paint roller! ;) OR you could just buy kyle's!....

No, I'm serious. I know I will probably just end up leaving it like it is, then getting a Balladeer LX in whatever color I wanted. But I am just considering changing the color of the Adamas. I know I can use a paint roller, send it back to mamma, get a can of spraypaint, color it with Crayons, etc. I would like something professional, and want to end up with something durable. If it is "doable" for around $200 or so, I may just try it. All I'm asking is "Has this been done?"

ttenn,
Seriously, unless you're skilled at removing and then reinstalling the bridge and the neck I think you will do more harm than good. I even doubt if you could find someone to spray it for $200 by the time you figure a quality paint, materials, and their labor then it isn't "doable." The Mothership is the best answer if you want a color change but even then it will probaby be more than $200 (call Kim for a quote) but when it's done it'll be "professional" & "durable!"

just my .02 cents

DON'T try to do your own refinish job, you will completely destroy the guitar's value no matter how good a job you do.

A guitar is to be valued for it's sound not it's color, and i recall seeing posts of some members who want a blue finish. So, advertise it for a trade for the color you want and then play it until some deal comes around. By then you may love it and decide blue was a good color after all, or, trade for what you want and you wont be out anything.

I would trust no one but the Factory for this kind of work.

If you are not happy with the instrument as it is you need to sell or trade.

A last option would be to get Nancy Wilson to sign her name ove any blemishes!

I've got a green one I'd love to trade for blue :) . And I'll probably refinish it myself. Done furniture, painted cars, no reason why I can't.

Besides going to Lowes......
Well you could always go to home depot but I don't like to shop there, Tony Stewart is such an assh*le.

The way to solve the problem is to get another guitar and sell this one. Don't even think about a refin.

Puddnhead: Do you have pictures of your green Adamas? Not that I'm interested in it...well, other than seeing it, that is.

sorry, elite not Adamas. If it was an Adamas I'd never complain about the color.

OK, I'm sure I'll keep it (or maybe someday send it to the mothership). I was just about to pull the trigger on a new 1778LX, but Al couldn't get any and GC only had the cherryburst, which I didn't like. So, I talked myself into getting this flawwed Adamas, sight unseen from Al.

Like I said, I love the sound. Best guitar I've ever heard.

Sound 100%. Feel 100%. Looks 75%.

I think I'll just save up or trade for a 05 Collectors.
