Please forgive my ignorance...

I've had a few Optima preamps, an OP50, and the new OP Pro. It's been my experience that periodically when attempting to use the tuner function in any of them I just get a flashing light-with no ability to use the tuner. It's frustrating, especially in moments when I REALLY need the tuner, but nothing I do will allow me to access it. Then some time later it behaves fine. There seems no rhyme or reason for it, and it's not something consistent, but it's very annoying.

I thought it was a battery issue, but that doesn't seem to do it...nor is the low battery light indicate my battery is going when the problem occurrs.

Anyone have any clues/ideas/input?

While I'm at it...the new OP Pro Tuner doesn't seem to acknowledge the high E string too frequently...but works on all the other strings fine. Seems like the gain on that string isn't strong enough...if I pick it really hard, the tuner will light, but only for a second.

Thanks a bunch.
Johnny

The only time my tuner doesn't work is when the pre-amp cuts out on my LX. I thought that I had solved the problem a few times, but it keeps coming back. I'm going to take it in this week to be fixed before I put it through a wall!

Oh Jeez! I know that feeling.

I often experience it with computers, recording gear, and occassionally my girl!

So true...

For that momentary release of frustration, the "oh $h!t What have I done" factor can be expensive...

and it goes without saying, especially with the girl!

You're right on Johnny! My days of smashing things are way behind me, although I have to admit to being tempted from time to time. Preamp problems aside, I really love my LX. I can't wait to get her out with me again. Until then, I'll have to use one of my P.O.S. Martins as Cliff calls em.

P.S. Before someone's P.C. feathers get ruffled, we're only kidding about the girls!

sick Jersey humor.

Ok, just sick.

Bummer 'bout the LX Preamp, John. You taking it back to Ritchie's or sending her home to the Mothership?

Strummin12, Just curious what color is the flashing light on the OPpro? It can flash green or red.

I have the same problems with my Optima but it's only on the low E. Seems it just flashes but never really turns solid. I ususally tune the rest of the guitar and just use my ear for the low E.(scary isn't it).

I'm starting with Dave's Sound. Ovation has them listed on the website as an authorized warranty center, although they also claim that the elecronics are not covered under the warranty. At this point, I'll just pay for the repair if need be.

John, tell Bill, the guitar tech, that I sent you. I've referred them a lot of business over the last 20 years. (technically, I did tell you about them a while ago). It may help...Also, they are open until 8 on weds & thurs, so you can still get there during the week after work. Bill doesn't come in on Saturdays, in which case you'll have to talk to Dave, who only works on keyboards and amps.

Bill, I haven't experienced the same problem...when the light on my preamp flashes, it does nothing else...won't tune for any other string. Bummer 'bout your situation.

The odd thing to me is that it happens with all my preamps, regardless of model. Perhaps I have a tuning "black cloud" over my head.

Good luck.
Johnny

Johnny, I mentioned your name and they threw me out and told me never to come back. :D Or was it Cliff's name that I mentioned?? I can't remember.

Seriously, I brought the guitar in to Bill and he said it's either a bad pick up or a bad wire to the pick up. Either way it should be no big deal to fix. I can't wait to get back. I HATE leaving my guitars at repair shops.
