I was researching a guitar I bought today and it led me to you guys.
I have always wanted an old Ovation Guitar.Just a plain accoustic as I already have several electrics of several different brands.Today I walked into a pawn shop and found a nice looking Ovation they had priced at 179 I thought the price seemed very odd as I had always seen them for much more. I asked (just for the heck) if that was the best they could do on it, he talked it over with someone and came back with 120 so I bought it.He threw in a soft /hard case (like a hard gig bag) and in it happened to be a electric tuner. After some research I have found that it is a Model 1111-1 Baladeer made in 1977. It has a few little dings and needs a good cleaning but I love it.
So I was just excited and wanted to tell someone and say Hello to all you folks

Thanks

Welcome. I am a NEWBIE TOO. YOU MAdE A GREAT DEAL for the price. Enjoy your new guitar. I have always thought that OVATION makes the best necks. They feel great, look great and are very strong. (The 5 piece neck is my favorite.)If you can find the time, post some photos here at the site. I am sure alot of us would be interested in seeing your Deal of a lifetime!!

Nothing like coming to the club with a BANG! That's a great score on the balladeer. I love the sunburst ones. Dave

I don't know how to post a pic, but I wanted to welcome you and congratulate you on getting a good deal.

I think I'll go Pawn shopping this weekend if the wife doesn't give me too long a Honey-Do list. :)

As you can see I figured out the Graemlin thingy.

and if you don't see what Bruce is describing, make sure that you logged onto the site with the full address....including the "www" at the beginning. For some reason, without that you can't get to where you need to be.

I think I got it,Here she is.

Does anyone know what guage strings I should put back on this model? My thought is probably 9's but I want to make sure that it is what ever the guitar is set up for from the factory ....even if it is 28 years old

Great find on the Balladeer! Looks like you're into SRV also... ;-)
I think the factory uses mostly D'Addario 12's on the new guitars.

Some people have ALL the luck finding good deals on vintage Ovations!!!

Welcome to the OFC and the club of good scorers, too. I think '9's would not bring that guitar to life, and would recommend at least '11's. Factory standard is '12's.

See told ya I am mostly an electric player I was way off guessing 9's on strings I had a set of 10's made by John Pearse that I put on it last night after I cleaned her up .I will pick up some 11,and 12s today.I stayed up way to late playing it last night it sounds great.I am kinda scared this guitar does not have The Crack that I have seen on many of the that runs from the bridge down to the bottom of the guitar ,Have you guys come up with a reason and more importantly a prevention for this?Cholloway Yes i am a Texas boy and SRV is one of my favorites,I am an artist at least i do artwork and the picture you see in the background is a pastel I did of him.By the way that is a really nice guitar you have in your post.
Thanks for all your comments and advice

Hi,
I'm also a new member, but with an old O. We were married in 1977 and scraped together $50 and I sold 2 guitars to buy the only Ovation we could afford so I could play and sing at our wedding. A Matrix. 25 years later I found out it was really a 1976 and told my wife that a neighbor had a 1977 Legend he would sell us for our 25th anniversary. She never picked up on the hint and the deal passed. Just bought a 99 Collector's and have been playing it a little and admiring it alot.

Congrats on the great deal... My first O, picked up last year is a 1976 1111 and I got it for $180.... It's my main "pick up and play" guitar... You'll get alot more than your $120 out of it in enjoyment... Make sure it's set up good... Alot of posts here about what to do if you want to raise or lower the action... Once again welcome!
