Anyone stating that Ovations would not be good for acoustic recordings and/or for fingerstyle guitar: have a listen at the sound samples on www.peghead.nl/english.htm.

Clips 2, 5, 7 and 9 were made with my O-CL, no piezo, just mics!

Great samples! Your link seems to have one dot too much in the end.

Excellent - particularly loved Roundback Rag.

Two questions:-

1. what strings ar you using on the Ovation?
2. Is that a Lakewood I hear in there?

Strings on the Ovation:

Roundback Rag: GHS Custom Shop Rollerwound Bright Bronze #RB30 (0.012 - 0.054).

Myosotis: d'Addario Phosphor Bronze EJ-16, 0.012-0.053

Mugle: Ernie Ball Slinky, 012-054

Cornerstone: Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Phosphor Bronze, 012-054

No Lakewoods here! The other tracks are recorded with a Taylor 712 and a Maton 808 (track 1).

Wow - they finally made a Taylor that can be mistaken for a good guitar :-)

I can't believe you use all those different strings and even more I can't believe you remember which ones you used on what.

I guess we'll be waiting a long time for you to write the track "Highlands of Holland" - or are they the bits that are 2 metres above sea level?

Used to have friends in Pijnakker (I don't think I spelled that right) and have some extremely happy memories of Holland, although I thought Volendaam was the worst place I've ever visited.
Or at least it was in the top 5.

Excellent! Must figure out a way to get the cd. (I don't use credit cards) Can this be done on regular pay pal?

Picker,
Are you a Chris Smither fan? You have a sound reminiscent of his style (which I really like) particularly on Mugle.

And the O really shines...

I keep a notebook in my home studio where I keep track of all the guitars used and what strings I had on the guitar at that time. Really helps when determining which strings sound best on which guitar.

Jeff W...my son just turned me on the Chris Smither's music.....and I agree about the sound on Mugle being reminiscent.

cool that you are open to your son's musical taste. In most households it's "Turn that Sh*t Off!"

Well, he grew up in a houselhold that played everything from 60's to country to hard rock to contempory....24/7. I think we instilled at an early age what "good" music was. That way, as he grew older and drifted off into some strange musical tangents, he always had the good basic foundation of what "good" music consisted of.

Whenever he comes home from college, he still rifles through all my new cd's to see what he might like.

He only recommends those artists that he thinks I will like....and most of the time he is correct!

Eltjo,
Great stuff, I am going to order a copy of the CD and then send the request for the signed copy! Maybe you can make reference to "a fellow OFC member"!

Also I see you are a fan of Emmanuel and Atkins. I used to have an album by them. I think it was "Fingerpickers that destroyed the world" or something like that. It disappeared and I have never been able to find another copy. I guess it is OOP.

Thanks Stephent28,

Just follow the instructions on the web site and it should all work out!

Note that "The Day Finger Pickers Took Over (!) The World" is still available. I just got myself a copy from the webshop of www.tommyemmanuel.com. It's a great CD, full of fun. Really very gentle and nice. And great playing, of course!

Thanks Xnoel,

On www.peghead.nl you can pay with a PayPal account. If for any reason that would not work out, just send them a message on their contact link. They're nice guys and will be pleased to help.

I'd never heard of Smither. Sorry! But I just checked out his website, and I know what you mean now. Nice, thanks!

This only goes to show what a pathetic state the record business is in - the first half dozen of us listen to this and we're all going to buy it. But would a big label issue it? No of course not because it's not "commercial" - there is so much good music out there that people just never get the chance to hear. Hope our encouragement is some help.

The Belgians still make better beer.

good music! u r very good. only 4 tracks with ovation, 7-8 with taylor 712? it's good start. i'm sure u can make any guitar sing!!

i noticed u just bought a new taylor & put a taylor guitar image/icon on top of your web page.
people may think that u r one of the taylor endorsed artists & the music sounds good becaue of taylor.

would you make a sample using ovation and then taylor? that would be a fair & more meaningful A B comparison.

Got the CD yesterday. It is playing right now. Just beautiful! And my wife likes it too, always a plus.
I did intend to get you to sign it, but forgot. So I will probably give this one to my son and order another. Will let you know when I order.
Recommended listening for fan club members!
