Saw this on TeaBay:
Case

My lack of foresight in building aDeacon 12 was that the standard and hard to fing case would fit it. Doh!!

I amlooking for a D12 case or suggestions on where to stuff my guitar, aside from a gig Bag. (Like Dave says, fresh meat every now and then!)

Are there any favored flat cases as well?

This is an early case (I should know, it's mine) from before the 12's were in production. The later cases were redesigned to take either a 6 or 12, but the early ones are a little too short. The early ones taper a little more towards the head, and the texturing is less smooth compared to the later versions.

What's the big deal. Chop off a little of the headstock and put the damned guitar in the case.

I get emails about a product that will increase the size of a guys guitar case, or something like that...

Natural Case Enhancement, I think.

"...Chop off a little of the headstock..."

Naw, that's crazy, Paul. Obviously, what you have to do is cut the end out of the case instead.

I'll have to check tommorow, but I think it will fit in a Coffin Case.

The coffin case should work.

Laid one of my Preacher 12's in the case. I aligned the headstock as best I could.

Close up of Preacher 12 headstock. Looks tight, but there is still about 1/2 inch of leeway.

What the heck, let's try a Limited.

Bruce:

What have you done with your Preacher 12 string? Looks like the p/u's might not be stock, and the controls definitely aren't.

I might have to come out and take a look at it.

The original owner had the preamp fail, so he had a new pickguard with minihumbuckers made. He also included the old pickguard with all electronic in the sale to me. I've repaired the preamp, just haven't gotten around to putting it back in.

I tend to do rebuilt/refurbs in steps.

1) get it working
2) get rid of any dings in the neck (I hate a dingy neck)
3) get as much as possible back to original

Sometimes it's a LONG time between steps (maybe never. Depends on how well it plays/sounds).

Almost forgot: step 4) modify until FUBAR.

Glen Campbell kept playing with his Bluebird 12's. He finally went to one p/u, a humbucker in the bridge position. I can't recall, but he may have had only a volume control on it.

On his custom built Hamer 12, while he's got 2 minihumbuckers on it, the only controls are a selector switch and a volume control.

I tend to think that there's too much stuff (controls and electronics)on my Preacher 12. I've often thought about simplifying the guitar.

Glen went back to the original dual pup config though, on the last 12-string Bluebird.
Nice to keep all the options open since they are already built in. Paul, I still think you have a capacitor or something way out of spec. That guitar should sound great.

Did you get the email I sent you?

If you come over to my work address bring your Preacher 12. I should be able to at least diagnose any preamp problem (and maybe fix it, depending on which part is bad.)

Bruce:

I got it. I'm going to have reason (work related) to go out to your neck of the woods in the next one to two weeks. I'll give you a call when I know when.

I appreciate and will take you up on your offer. My electronics knowledge consists of the switch up to turn on the light, down to turn it off. And don't stick a screwdriver into a power socket.

O.K.

Funny thing happened while I was taking the pictures.

I was leaving the case outside on the pavement near the bottom of the stairs while I was bringing one guitar at a time downstairs.
So I took the pictures of the white Breadwinner, took it upstairs and was in the building for a while before taking the Preacher 12 outside.
I get outside and there's a police hellicopter doing a circle in the air centered on the case.
As soon as I go outside the 'copter zooms in to see what's going on.
It hung around until I was finished.
Must have liked the guitars.

So they spotted the coffin while you were runnig for a Preacher? Damn if there ain't a Country song in there somewhere!

I am sold on the Coffin Case. I should put a sticker on it that says "Deacon inside, Preacher's next".

That will go over good at church!
