My battery light is on on my u681t already after just 2 weeks. I've plugged it in for 5 minutes. the only time the preamp has been used is fro tuning up. Any pointers for longer battery life?

looks to me as if there is a short or it was a "new" battery but old stock. haven't seen this problem in my OP-Pros. might try a new battery and see if it is still a problem.

If the next new battery dies as well, take out the jack and check to see that the lead to the battery is disconnecting every time you remove the plug. Might be just a small matter of "re-forming to specification" . . .(bending something).

Maybe those higher numbers have some "issues" as well...

best to check out the battery even if recently purchased...at a drugstore recently, Duracell that said "best if installed by Jan 2002". Obviously, they don't have a high turnover in stock.

and, of course, I bought the batteries somewhere else.

When I bought my Ibanez AEF 30 I got it home, cracked open a beer, plugged it in and....NOTHING! After the panic subsided (a six pack later) I decided to swap batteries. Problem solved. Sometimes shit just happens.

I have noticed that the tuner eats a lot more battery than plugging in. If you are spending a long time with it on your battery won't last long. Also, leaving the cord plugged in which activates the preamp will continually drain your battery. Unplug after each session.
