I am trying to decide on locking tuner brands, and the Grovers are the ones without the thumb screw. Are you pleased with them overall?

I have used the Grover Mini Locking Rotomatics on 2 of my Ibanez acoustics, one of them a 12-string. I love these tuners. It takes a little while to totally understand how they work, but once you get it, very nice. They have an 18:1 tuning ratio, and that makes tuning very nice.
I looked at the Ovation tuners on my '05 Collector. If I was going to swap, I believe the Grover full size locking rotomatics would work. I cannot verify that for sure, however.
In any event, these are really nice tuners. |

Location: Peoria, Illinois | No full wrap needed. You pass the string through the hole, pull it snug and start to tune. When the mechanism locks the string, you end up with less than full wrap on each peg. |

Not necessary, but for a 12-string it makes string changes much easier. I only upgrade tuners on my less expensive instruments, and find it does help keep them in tune. I liked the Grovers and the locking ones came with an 18:1 ratio.
I have not replaced any tuners on my Ovations. |
