Hi,

I bought an Ovation, Model 1612 a few years ago, and now I would like to estimate it. I've really no idea of what to do. The serial number would be : 216869. Does anybody know what model it is ?

Thanks !

Cparker,
Welcome aboard! You've heard right it's a 1981 Custom Balladeer.

Thanks a lot !

Thanks to you, I could checked the prices in France, and I was really surprised.

I've only bought that guitar $300 to a friend, but now I see that people in France sell this model something like $1650. How is this possible ? What is the real value of my guitar ?

And thanks again !

$300 is about right for the current value in the US. I just saw one in very nice condition sell on eBay for $230.

I don't know what they go for in France, but $1650 sounds like way too much.

A good "Rule of Thumb" that often (but not ALWAYS, naturally) applies, is:
"Whatever you paid for it when it was a NEW model, is "pretty close" t'what it may be worth now . . ."

Your Mileage May Vary.
Some Assembly Required.
Batteries Not Included.

Thank you very much !
I had bought mine $300, so I didn't understand why some people would sell it that expensive.
Some people are real thieves...

I have an 1112-4 built in 1972 I think. The best acoustic I have owned or played. I paid around $250 for it a few years ago. What is it worth? I probably wouldn't sell it unless I had another one lined up for the same price I paid that was just as nice. I bought my father-in-law the same guitar with a sunburst finish for $500.
People always make posts and ask what is it worth. It is worth what it is worth to you.
You should be looking and listening for what you like. A nice guitar is a nice guitar. Alot of us probably own guitars that have the potential to put out alot more than we can deliver.
I hate the "what is it worth" posts.
My 1112-4, serial number 044707, is worth more to my daughter than anyone else, knowing that one day she will have her daddy's guitar.
I have been visiting this site for a little over two years, maybe longer, and newcomers are always asking what their guitar is worth. Do all these people need validation that they have a cool instrument?
Regards,
Shaft

Shaft, many come here just looking for a value so they can SELL it, they aren't really Ovation fans. I'd be willing to bet that a few hundred of the OFC's 3000+ members are people who joined so they could post to find out the value and then LEFT, never to return.

Welcome CParker,

I've never seen a Cust Balladeer sold in France for 1650$ and i hope to never see one!!

I don't say that some swindlers don't try to sell Ovation guitars at prohibitive prices but i'm sure that most of the French are not so "cretin" to buy them!!! :D

And i'm working hard on a french forum to help the potential buyers and keep the price at a reasonable level!!

A big challenge

Jérôme :)
