I normally bid what I would pay for something. If I feel it's too much I just don't bid.

Been doing the eBay thing for around 7 years now, and if you're willing to wait, it will be back on there sooner or later. Maybe not the original item, but one similar, or just like it.

You just have to be patient. :D

I know this is easier said than done ... but I try to approach bidding on an auction as if it were shopping in a real store. I have a price in mind and I stick to it no matter what. Usually. Of course unless it's "close" to what I had prepared to pay and I figure, well I drove all the way to the store anyway ... Dave

Doesn't it pi$$ you off though, when the winning bid is $1 more than your highest bid???

It used to, but I find if there is another one out there, it will be on the 'Bay sooner or later, and I'll try again, if I haven't found something else. :D

Life is too short to worry about things you don't have much control over. :)

It always "looks" like the winning bid is $1. higher than your max bid. But you should assume that if you tried to re-bid, the winner would have just engaged in a bidding war with you and you may have eventually won it, but at what cost. What is the item worth to you vs. what is it worth to make sure someone else does not get it instead. Dave

Geez...

Men. Once noble hunters. Braving the harsh and dangerous wilderness for sustenance...

now we develop nervous disorders shopping on Ebay.

Oh, how far we have fallen...

Dave is right....the top bid that the winning bidder had submitted was probably a bit more than the $1 over your top. You COULD have gone up a bit, but the result might have been the same....other than costing the other person some more money, and making the seller happier.
