Location: Arlington, Virginia | Hi, New user and I'm delighted to find this forum. I have a deacon w/mini humbuckers which has experienced a series of unfortunate events. Lost the locking screws for the backplate, so I taped it up (I was 19) and eventually the batteries were dangling out and the 9 volt leads were yanked out. Many years passed and I had a local place resolder in the 9 volt leads. Now the guitar works, but is really quiet and somewhat noisy. I tried adjusting the polarity and volume balance pots through the back, but it doesn't do much. Does anyone have an idea of what this might be? My options now seem to be finding a replacement circuit board, send it to the ovation factory repair shop, or attempt a simple repair myself. My roommate is also suggesting that I frankenstein it and slap in a replacement pickup somehow, but I would really rather not. Any thoughts on a possible fix or course of action? Many thanks in advance! |

If at all possible, please don't do the "frankenstein" number on the Deacon. These guitars are starting to go up in value. A simular one just sold for $910 on e-bay.
I would suggest that you contact Ovation customer service. They do good work and I think they really respect the old model guitars. |

I have replacement 1/4 turn fastener receivers and will be obtaining some of the 1/4 turn "screws" soon. Ebay occasionally has replacement electronics but the last full set I bid on went for $180. Check with Customer Service as well.
I am close tolocating agood electricianto troubleshoot my Preacher Deluxe board. I will let you know howit comes out.
Keep it original at all costs. Then, if you have to modify it - we havesome great ideas! |

I have been networking and have a good lead on a local electronics/vintage guitar Guru. Probably a simple fix - if you know where to look! |

Location: Arlington, Virginia | Thank you for all of the input and the links to the preamp on ebay. I contacted the customer service dept. at Ovation and they seem willing to take a look at it, so that seems like a good bet. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out. Thanks again for all the tips! |
