I know! I know! I shoulda been there!!! It sounded like a good time was had by all!

Anyway, I'm curious about a couple of things and I wonder if any of this came up during the tour:

With the expanding LX series and the new deep contour bowl, are any models going to be discontinued?

Is Ovation going to continue with the three traditional bowl sizes (shallow, mid-depth, deep) plus the deep contour bowl, or is the DC bowl going to replace one or more of them?

On the subject of tour questions (Tony, I don't mean to hijack your thread, just want to add another question to the list), were there any of the "vintage" reissues there and if so, how are they? I'm referring to the Glen Campbell and shiny bowl resissues, not the Adamas ones, which have already been reviewed and raved about.

Looking at the current brochures, the shallow bowl USA model seems to be dead already except on speciality guitars.

Makes me wonder if it's because they really didn't sell or because dealers didn't want to hold stock of 2 or 3 variations of the same model and just opted for mid-depth as the one least likely to scare the customers. It's a shame because they have got a lot going for them.

There was a reissue Josh White and Balladeer. I was not there but report are that the guitars were very nice.

My understanding (and I MAY be wrong on some points) is that there won't be any models discontinued, but the LX's will be like ordering the "luxury edition" car with all the accoutrements, while the basic model IS still available. I think the ContourBowl will go into production models of the CustomBalladeer and (I guess) work it's way down from there over the years.

Ovation management stated a few times that the market will have alot to say about what is made.

Here's a re-issue of the early Balladeer, Shiney bowl and three-piece top, just like the original. I played this guitar and I thought it was awesome, but Ovation Management is still in the "thinking it over stage" as to whether it will go into production.

There were 2 or 3 of these and they got EVERYTHING right, headstock shape, rosette, 3-piece top, neck profile, 5-point bridge, shiny bowl, tuning machines, the lot. Problem is that even when they turn up the originals are not exactly in high demand, nor do they go for great money, except to maybe one of us perverts. So while these are really cool replicas of classic Ovations, I wonder if there's a market for them, 'cos they won't be cheap.

Looking at the pic of Brian with the Balladeeer, I'm reminded that the one wrong thing with the details of this guitar and the Josh White is the positioning of the strap button below the neck. Ovation only started doing that in the 1970's when the volume control was put above the neck.

I think that these guitar will only be available for a year, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Ovation.

Oh yea, one more thing about the shiney back re-issue of the balladeer, NO ELECTRONICS what so ever! So that would definately impact marketing plans. But it sang like a bird and was light as a feather. Like Paul Templeman posted, you really got to be a nerdy Ovation geek to shell out the clams for one of these.
